I have a couple of old machines I use for my home studio to convert things I’ve recorded long ago and because sometimes I want a saturated tape sound that is hard to achieve with digital effects. So a guy shipped me a bunch of old reel to reels I was going to use for extra stock, just in case type situations, and unbeknownst to him or me, it turned out to be the tape collection of an avid home taper living in the NYC area in the 1960s. This is a goldmine of all kinds of interested bits taped off the radio and nice dubs of their record collection. It’s going to take me years to sift through all of it, so I plan to be a tape enthusiast until these old tapes crumble into dust.
