Harman Kardon Citation Seventeen S Preamplifier

The HK Seventeen S preamplifier was the last preamp made by Harman Kardon before the sale to the current owners, Beatrice Ford, and was the last piece that was made in the USA.

The volume pot is a 32-step / fixed-resistors attenuator while the headphones is fed by the connected power amp's loop through, allowing direct speaker selection from the Seventeen as well. Reaction to square waves is exemplary and the phono stage is difficult to overload.

The younger brother to the famous and abundant HK 330 series (330A, 330B, and 330C), the 230A shares many of the design cues that made that line so popular.   Nice styling touches include a red, lit, power button, sold aluminum machined knobs, and that distinctive black-out dial face that lights in a beautful green glow when AM or FM is selected.  An unusual feature on the 230A is a split AM and FM dial.

The Harman Kardon Citation 1 preamplifier does not adhere to conventional circuitry and incorporate many advanced engineering innovations normally available only in the highest quality studio equipment. The unit consists of a group of circuit blocks called active and passive networks. Active network are those which incorporate vacuum tubes and furnish amplification. Passive networks consist of resistors and condensers exclusively and do not amplify. An effort was made to carefully seperate thes circuit blocks in this preamplifier
